Meet Charlotte

Charlotte Hagerstal
Postpartum Doula
I am Charlotte, a mother of three, a certified postnatal doula offering support to new mums at home. After having my three children, I felt an inner calling—a deep and powerful sense that there was so much more to be done in the postpartum period.

I experienced a vast gap between what I went through and what I later learned through extensive training and personal research. This gap became my calling. I am passionate about seeing couples in their entirety, listening to their needs and desires. I provide tools and resources that align with their personal values. Kindness and discretion are at the core of my approach because I enter a bubble of intimacy and vulnerability when I work with families. For me, discretion is akin to professional secrecy—what happens in their home remains private. These moments of support are always provided with kindness. And no judgment whatsoever. I did all my training in the UK and in France with well-established and recognised experts. I am also a lactation consultant, a baby massage practitioner, and a specialist in therapeutic baby baths. I offer all of these services under the name of Gentle Beginnings with Charlotte. What sets me apart is my expertise in postnatal recovery and my certification as a Le Mois d’Or practitioner. This is a well respected french institution, which provides high quality education to professionals. The Golden Month, also known as the fourty days, is a maternal regeneration process based on Chinese medicine, designed to nurture and protect the mother so she can rest, recover from childbirth, and bond gently with her baby. During this time, everything else around her is managed by her support circle.

Who it’s for
Baby massage classes are suitable for babies under 12 months.
Infant massages are not new. In fact, baby massages have quite the history. Evidence of the earliest infant massage dates back to ancient India. Today we know just how much a newborn benefits from massage and that all babies, particularly low birthweight babies, often thrive when exposed to human touch. Babies have a biological need for close physical affection. Nothing is more important to their emotional, physical and intellectual development than a comforting cuddle or a loving touch.
From improved sleep to a better bond, baby massage has so much to offer for both the baby and the parent.
What you’ll learn
You will learn all about the optimal environment for a baby massage, which oil to choose, various strokes by targeting the right body parts, how to pay close attention to your baby's cues during caregiving, understand when to stop a massage etc
What’s included
My classes usually run for 4 weeks: a 1h session on a weekly basis for 4 weeks.

Gentle Beginnings is centred around the importance of essential and personalized care for mothers after birth. The care provided to mothers has a profound impact, not only on her well-being but also on her family and the community at large.
By supporting and empowering mothers during this vulnerable and transformative time, Gentle Beginnings aims to foster healthier families and stronger communities. I am here to help you feel seen, held and cared for during your fourth trimester so that you can approach your role as a new parent with the calm confidence that comes from trusting your own innate mothering ability.
Questions
How does a session unfold?
The services I offer begin with an initial meeting where we assess whether we’re a good fit. During the prenatal phase, I provide information on postpartum recovery and the main principles of the first fourty days and we create a personalized postpartum plan based on your unique needs and values. Then, during the postnatal phase, I offer support at home, focusing on emotional, logistical, and parenting guidance.
What is the difference between a midwife and a doula?
Our profession as postnatal doula is different from that of midwives, who have a medical role with women and postpartum care. We provide emotional, logistical, and parenting support over a longer time frame. We work in partnership with midwives, but our work is different.
